When such an unfortunate incident happens in your life, you find that it is greatly disruptive to your life. Anything and everything that is related or not related to your ex becomes affected and it seems as if the world has come to an end. During your time together, if your ex had been able to become part of your life and your family and friends always see the two of you together, they may become curious when you and your ex separate. Because of that, you might need to face question after question about your love life, annoying you to no end. They may even try to intervene and do things to help you two get back together, like remind you of the fun you had together, or how it is terrible to be lonely.
You need to be firm in your resolve if you have decided that you two really cannot get back together. Be firm with your family and friends that you two cannot resolve your problems no matter what happens and that they are not able to help. If they insist that things can go back to normal, then suggest they take action to resolve the problems instead. Fortunately, they are your friends and everything they do is for your benefit. They will eventually stand by your side and support your decisions.
One problematic situation is when you and your ex still continue sharing your lives together, such as going to the same workplace or meeting the same friends. When you enter your workplace, trying to avoid your ex might be difficult and when you need to work together, things may become complicated. Your colleagues might notice the awkwardness when they see the two of reluctantly together and how the two of you are always trying to avoid each other.
It is also unfortunate that at the workplace, you and your ex may need to divide your colleagues from each other and keep contact mainly with the people you are familiar with. Making contact with the other group may only be for the purpose of work, making things even more awkward and difficult to bear. However, despite all these, it does not mean that one or both of you should have a change in location or career. Getting over your break up is to help you carry on living your life normally, and losing your job just to get over your break up defeats that purpose.
If you find that trying to face the people around you is too difficult, then you might want to consider taking a break and going away for a period of time until your emotions have calmed down. This might be a good time for you to go on a holiday or stay away from work to settle the things in your life first. This way, you do not need to permanently get away from the lives you have shared with your ex and can still get over the depression.
A break up is definitely not easy to overcome, but fortunately, you are not alone in this world and can have people to give you emotional support. It may take some time, but do remember that getting over a break up is to be able to live your life normally again, so do not consider doing anything that is reckless.
