1. You have a finite amount of will power each day because to exercise will power you need energy in the form of oxygen and glucose That’s why it’s harder to say ‘no’ when you are tired or not feeling yourself.

2. A thought is a physical pathway in the brain. The more you have that thought the more you groove that path and the easier it is to have it again. That’s why having the thought “Why do I suck?” is never a great idea.

3. Speaking of which, you have approximately 70,000 thoughts per day, although many will be the same ones looping round and round on your grooved cranial highway.

So make sure you don’t think, “Why do I suck?” 50,000 times a day, or suck ye shall.

4. Even if you consider yourself a left-brained person, your brain will still switch over to the right side every 90 to 120 minutes and then back again.

That’s why even left-brained people can have times of the day when they are more creative and right-brained people can sometimes get their taxes in order.

Note: If you want to know how you can tell which side is dominant at any one time, check outCreativity – Guaranteed and you can then plan your time accordingly.

5. Reading out loud to kids accelerates their brain development.

6. Reframing negative events in a positive light literally rewires your brain and can make you a happier person, as can regular meditation.

Some Numbers To Wrap Your Brain Around

7. The brain is approximately 75% water, but you should never drink it.

8. Your brain only weighs about 3lbs yet the greedy bastard uses between 20% and 25% of your energy supplies each day.

9. There are approximately 10 to the power of 60 atoms in the universe. Your brain laughs in the face of that figure however, as it has 10 to the power of 1,000,000 different ways it can wire itself up.

That’s the number 10 followed up with 1 million zeroes, which is to all intents and purposes (for anybody not called Stephen Hawking or Rob Collins), an infinite amount of ways.

10. Speaking of large numbers, there are approximately 1.1 trillion cells and 100 billion neurons in the average human brain.

11. The slowest speed information passes around your brain is approximately 260 mph

Brain Trivia

12. Your brain was disproportionately large compared to other organs when you were born.

That’s why babies look a bit like aliens. Not yours of course, yours are cute, just other peoples babies.

13. If you lose blood flow to your brain you will last about 10 second before you pass out.

14. Your brain has no pain receptors which is why if I managed to remove the top of your skull without you noticing I could poke around all day without you feeling a thing. The skull removal may hurt a bit though.

15. Even though we say the amygdala regulates danger, the cerebellum motor control, and the limbic system emotions etc, this is somewhat misleading as no part operates independently and all need other parts of the brain to get their job done.

16. Your peripheral vision improves at night which is why pilots are taught to use their peripheral vision when looking for traffic.

Your Brain Is Amazing

17. Leaving aside degenerative brain disease, your brain never loses the ability to learn and change because it’s effectively plastic and constantly rewiring itself.

Leopards may indeed not change their spots, but you’re not a Leopard and you can change yourself and your brain is up for the challenge.

18. It ‘s a self development urban myth that we only use 10% of our brain. We use it all and if you don’t believe me cut a bit out and see what happens.

Note: Unfortunately the new movie, Limitless due out soon is going to re-embed this myth as it’s based on the story line that we use 20% of our brain and you can take a pill to access the other 80%. Ho-hum.

19. If you were to measure your brainwave activity you wouldn’t see any drop off when you’re asleep.

You may be napping, but your brain is still working hard pumping your heart, digesting your food, maintaining your blood pressure and much more to make sure you don’t wake up dead.

20. Research has shown that the hippocampus which which deals with visual-spatial awareness, is larger in London Taxi drivers than normal people. London ‘cabbies’ have to spend months, sometimes years, learning literally every street in the Capital before they are allowed a license.

This process is known as ‘The Knowledge’ and it literally enlarges that part of their brain. Unfortunately, it doesn’t help them with anger management issues when cyclists get in their way.

21. Until relatively recently scientists thought that the brain was the only area of the human body that didn’t generate new cells. We now know that’s not true and the brain does reproduce shiny new cells for you to use

22. You have something in your brain called mirror neurons. If you see somebody stub their toe for example, the same pain area will light up in your own brain causing you to flinch.

Mirror neurons weren’t even known to exist prior to the early 1990’s, but now there is a growing belief in the scientific community they are responsible for us feeling empathy toward others.

23. When somebody takes cocaine their pleasure center (nucleus accumbens) lights up and dopamine and serotonin are released. Fortunately, you don’t have to blow your life savings, act like a dick and lose your nasal lining to get similar results.

Giving to charity or helping people in need also activates the nucleus accumbens. What a win/win that is, eh?

Your Brain Is a Dumbass

24. Multi-tasking is a self development urban myth. You simply cannot do it efficiently no matter what manufacturers of smart phones want you to believe.

According to the University of Utah, there are a few people (about 2.5% of the population) who can do two things consciously* at once without seeing any degradation in performance.

They are called super-taskers.

However, for most people all the brain is doing is going backwards and forwards very quickly and giving the illusion of multi-tasking. The reality is performance is inhibited by this approach not improved.

* I do appreciate that you can do multiple things unconsciously at once such as driving and talking. (Not texting though!)

25. Your brain is constantly lying to you when you have your eyes open. Because it cannot deal with every single detail that you’re looking at, the occipital lobe is joining the dots with what itpresumes is there.

26. Similarly, your brain doesn’t record memories like video as it would be easy to assume. It takes snapshots of the more important bits and then when you recall the event it guesses what happened in between based on prior experience.

27. Your brain finds it very easy to create false memories largely because of the above and the fact that it spends so much time guessing what’s happening.

When scientists exposed people to Photoshopped images of themselves at various event years prior they were soon able to explain what they were doing and recall the event with clarity even though they were never there.

There will be events you swear blind happened the way you remember, but never actually did. A sobering thought.

28. The reason why some Chinese born people struggle to pronounce words like ‘fried’ is not because they can’t be arsed to learn them, as I ignorantly and embarrassingly believed when I was younger.

It’s because no similar pronunciation is needed in the Chinese language.

Therefore, if they are not exposed to the English language before around the age of 3, that part of the brain is allocated to other purposes.

29. Your brain is fairly crap at distinguishing between what’s really happening and what you are merely imagining. Which is why horror films scare people and porn films, er…ahem, well you know.

30. The brain is very poor at concentrating for long periods of time and needs to clear it’s head so to speak about every 90 minutes or so.

Which is why if you’re delivering training and you want to maximize results, you should allow people to take lots of mini breaks rather than one long break for lunch.

I’d love your take. Anything surprising to you? Or do you have any amazing facts of your own? If so let me know in the comments.

What is a Secret Agenda?

Secret Agenda’s come in many forms. Have you ever said to yourself “I don’t want this to ever happen again and I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure it doesn’t”? How about “I’m going to stop myself from doing this in the future”? How about “I will never have or receive this again because it causes too much pain”?

You may find that your life coaching income is limited by past experience you have had, judgments you made or limitations you have put on yourself. Your life coaching income is begging you to take a deeper look and destroy these buggers so it can increase and grow exponentially.

What Secret Agenda’s are running all day everyday in your life and coaching business that might affect your income?

Much like a computer running background data that you can’t see, these same programs are running your ability to receive an increase in your life coach income.

How to Destroy These Agenda’s And Set Your Life Coaching Income Free

You need to start by running your business from the question not the conclusion. If you consider that your business is like a long hallway and you are trying to walk as fast as possible to the other side then you are living on total secret agenda overload. Your life coaching income can never increase if you are focused on the “how” and control. Start to slow down and notice all the doorways along the way. Rather then rushing to the end why don’t you try knocking on the door. You don’t have to know what is on the other side.

Knocking in this analogy relates to asking more questions of your business and potential. I like to play around with asking a question each day.

What can I generate or create today that will create money now and in the future for my life coaching income?

Step Out of Your Comfort Zone With Pride

We all have a Comfort level when it comes to money. A lot of people live with the comfort of barely enough to get by. If you function here you have blocked yourself from the energy and ability to receive more. This level of comfort and control will feel like what you have to maintain with your life coaching income.

Step into the energy of what it will feel like to receive unimaginable life coaching income and function from this point of energy and reference never anything less.

Vaporize Your Agenda’s Today in 5 Easy Steps

By reading this article you have already done your life coaching income a favor and brought awareness to your possible working limitations. You are an infinite being who is meant and deserves to receive.

Place value on what you do and do not accept less

Be willing to be open and receive

Start asking questions rather then making conclusions

As part of your daily practice release judgments you have put on success

Allow yourself to be and create from passion

Your life coaching income will give you a big hug and a thank you Open yourself up to lots of hugs and kisses to receive that next level of financial freedom.

Good News

Each New Year brings awesome blogging opportunities for self-help junkies like me. I love offering up tips for making positive change—especially when readers are committed. This year I’m going to take advantage of the resolution bandwagon and throw down some tips for bringing more happy into the new year.

Now is the perfect time to make powerful change—your willingness is at an all-time high.

Check out my top twelve happiness tips for 2012:

Tip 1: Let go of 2011 baggage.

It’s likely that 2011 brought many ups and downs. This year, resolve to focus on the good stuff. Choose to let go of what went wrong last year, and commit to what will go right this year. Be grateful and appreciate all that you have. When you appreciate what you do have, you create more of what you want. Stop focusing on lack and let the energy of gratitude create a more abundant life.

Tip 2: Change the conversation.

Make a resolution to change your dialogue about fear and negativity. When you think, talk, and act from a negative place, you attract negativity into your life. Commit to a new conversation. Begin the New Year talking and thinking about what you love about your life, rather than replaying the same old negative story. You might just be surprised by the results.

Tip 3: Give.

Being altruistic not only benefits the person you’re helping but greatly enhances your own life, too. This year, commit to the mantra “How can I give?” rather than “How can I get?” Giving produces endorphins, which make you feel great! Plus, giving to others helps you get out of your own way. When you focus on giving you can stop focusing on what you’re not getting.

Tip 4: Take a ME break.

Commit to a ME break at least once a week. Take time out to focus on yourself. This is a powerful habit to create early in the year. Need some suggestions? Take a long yoga class, prepare a nice meal for yourself, or create an evening ritual. One of my favorite ways to take a ME break in the evening is to give myself a facial.

Tip 5: Get naked!

This year, make a commitment to be authentic. Get naked with your truth, offering the world your greatest gift: your authentic self. Begin a practice of being yourself on dates, in the office, or even in your home. We all thrive on true connection. So this year, get naked with your truth. Don’t deprive the world of your authentic gifts. Even if it feels uncomfortable at first—go with it—you’ll feel liberated in no time.

Tip 6: Get creative.

This year, I commit to spend more time painting. This creative hobby takes me out of my daily patterns and ignites my inner spirit. Pledge to engage in a creative project as often as possible. You’ll find that time spent in creativity heightens your happiness, and gives you more energy for the other areas of your life.

Tip 7: Do innovative exercise.

Each New Year, millions resolve to hit the gym and lose weight. This year, make your physical resolutions fun! Rather than locking yourself up in the gym for days, find cool ways to shed the pounds. I am a huge fan of Hoopnotic, a rockin’ workout with a Hula-Hoop. When I Hula-Hooped as a kid, it was just a fun thing to do. I never would’ve imagined doing it as a killer (and totally addictive) workout.

Tip 8: Practice the F-word.

Carrying resentments into the New Year will only recreate the patterns from years prior. This year, vow to let go of resentments by practicing the F-word and forgive. Become conscious of whom you need to forgive (including yourself) and be willing to let go of your resentment and turn it over daily. Each morning when you wake up, set the intention to forgive. This daily intention will ignite a consciousness of forgiveness and provide you with the necessary tools to allow the F-word process to set in.

Tip 9: Eat mindfully.

To keep your Spirit Junkie mentality intact, you must feed your soul superfoods. This New Year I’ve committed to kicking the coffee. Rather than go nuts trying to eliminate everything bad in your diet, keep it simple and choose one thing to let go of. My spiritual running buddy Kris Carr offers amazing tips for cleaning up your palate in her book Crazy Sexy Diet. Let Kris’s book inspire you to keep it simple and wholesome. There’s no need to kick it all at once. Small shifts create powerful change.

Tip 10: Be Authentic.

Rather than conform to what you think the world wants you to be, in 2012, serve the world more of YOU. Make a New Year’s resolution to be more authentic. When you share your truth with the world, your genuine gifts shine through. Plus your authenticity gives others the chance to be truthful, too!

Tip 11: Sit back and receive.

I work hard to balance my go-getter mentality with my sit-back-and-RECEIVE approach to life. This year, welcome stillness and receptivity. Through a daily meditation practice, you can begin to transform your need to control outcomes and learn to sit back and receive. You’ll come to understand that stillness is sometimes the greatest action. Begin a meditation practice today with one of my FREE Spirit Junkie guided meditations. CLICK HERE to download.

Tip 12: Expect miracles.

Kick off the New Year with a miracle mindset. Begin each day with a prayer for peace and happiness. Say out-loud or to yourself: “Thank you, inner guide, for reminding me of all the love and light in my life. I welcome positive support throughout this day. I expect miracles.” This daily prayer will jump-start your day with a miracle mindset and awaken your consciousness to the greatness around you.

Incorporate these twelve tips into your daily practices and enjoy the positive results. Trust that the Universe has your back, expect miracles, and be happy!

There are plenty of self esteem activities that will help you overcome low self esteem and boost your self esteem. Let us focus on your self awareness, what choices and changes you need to make.

We need self awareness in everything we do. Self awareness is knowing and having a clear perception of who you really are. Your personality, behavior, thoughts, beliefs, emotions, strengths, weaknesses, everything you, yourself is. Since self esteem is a reflection of your self worth, your self image, what you think about yourself and how you see yourself, then self awareness is necessary in building self esteem. Being aware of your thoughts and feelings is an activity. Self awareness then is one of the self esteem activities you need to do when you need it.

Know the choices you need to make and identify the changes you need to do. Basically, it is you who holds your thoughts and it is you who makes choices and decisions for you. Now you know you should be aware of your thoughts and feelings, you can now clearly make choices and do things that will boost your self esteem.

Change. As we stumble on the road of success, we learn from our mistakes. We need to change. Again you need to think again, be aware with your thoughts and feelings, make the right choice, and decide what to change to avoid the first failure you encounter on the same road.

These self esteem activities come in handy wherever you walk through life. You control you. The rest is a guide and you are the one who needs to work on it. Better choices makes a lot difference from making the wrong ones. But always remember we are allowed to make mistakes to learn from it. Do each self esteem activities with a positive mind!

The world we live in today is full of pressure along with a work load in which men and women infrequently find time for themselves and their families when they start earning. Professional life is very different from the lifestyle that individuals lead when they’re children and still finishing their schooling. It’s also true that not everyone is blessed with opportunities and abilities to do whatever they enjoy and believe in.

You will find many mantras of living a productive and stress free life. One of the most essential of those is the effect of positive thinking. Just about everything an individual does calls for a lot of commitment and work on the part of the person. At times the situations may not be positive and as a result there’s often the need to remain focused and positive to achieve the wanted results.

Positive thinking can totally transform the life of the person who is finding it hard to deal with daily pressure and the difficulties of life. Whenever you think positive, your body helps you in understanding the situation a lot more logically and making a lot more advantageous choices than you might have made otherwise.

Right attitude is really a consequence of right thinking. People tend to think negatively in many of the situations that come up in their lives, which not only hurts them for the moment but in addition leads to their thinking being rigid. There are always differences of opinion between family members or partners. It is very important that individuals respect one anothers’ opinions and think about them prior to making any decision that might have an effect on the life of other individuals. The way in which individuals act and respond in particular situations is a result of their thinking and perceiving capabilities, which isn’t created in a couple of days but over a lengthy time period. Therefore it is vital that lots of time and thought should be given before coming to any decision that could have an effect on your life.

Positive thinking not only has great influences on the choices you make but additionally on your health. Your health is a consequence of how positive you happen to be in your approach towards life and exactly how you handle difficulties and issues in your life. Men and women are generally good at coping with favorable results but it’s a lot more critical to understand the skill of dealing with problems and losses in life. This is the real test of any human being which teaches and readies you for the future.

Outstanding leaders and well known people have often emphasized the value of right attitude. Achievement in any field of life, no matter whether individual or professional, will depend a great deal on your capacity to make intelligent choices that are backed up by positive thinking in challenging situations. So, go forward and think positively and before long you’ll be amazed with the results you accomplish in your own life.

A few people ended up doing what they’d always planned; others did a total 180 degree turn and chose a totally different life. For many of us, selecting any path in life was hard and so we settled for whatever would come our way.

It is not a scarcity of smarts or the disposition to do it – it’s just that many people need steerage and support in order to prosper. Many folks do not even understand how unhappy they are in their present situation until they can look back on it. Are you totally satisfied with your life right now or is there something restraining you?

When you hear the words Life Coach, you’ll picture a big strong guy in a wind breaker with a whistle, but a life coach will do more for you than your fitness teacher ever did. A life coach will give you the drive, skills and tools to choose your own direction, set out goals and achieve them.

For a few individuals, it is not so much about the future but more about the past. If you have ever thought that life coaching was not for you, think again.

We are fortunate in our family to have two living grandmothers and one of the appreciations shared this year was just that. Both my mother and mother –in- law are hale and still quite hearty in their mid 80’s. As they both live in the Carolinas and no longer enjoy flying, we don’t see them often. My daughter Nicole suggested we organize a “grandmother’s getaway” so that she could spend some time with them. Last month the four of us had five glorious days together and enjoyed the beauty of Myrtle Beach, SC.

I took this picture from our hotel balcony on our last morning. There is something purely magical about witnessing the sun rising seemingly from the ocean. I love the dawn, the light of a new day. Each morning is a new start, a fresh slate. You can set the tone of your day simply by appreciating it. Every time I see this photo I will remember the great time we four had together. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with the octogenarians, playing bridge and hearing about yesteryear when the world was simpler. They find smart phones, GPS, and digital cameras to be “mind boggling” (to quote my mother-in-law).

Nicole and I listened to her grandmothers share their stories and their practical wisdom. She and I both realized how fortunate we were to be there with them, to still have them in our lives. As we move through this holiday season, I hope we can hold that sense of gratitude not just for our family and friends but for the larger community of mankind.

I encourage you to foster an attitude of gratitude and spread it around. Here are some tips to develop it:

Keep a gratitude journal. Every day or two write down things you appreciate. As a regular exercise, I ask my coaching clients to list 3 things they are grateful for each week. It helps to remember that there are good things happening in our lives despite whatever challenges (like job searching), we may be going through.

Take a walk in natural surroundings. Take time to breathe in the fragrances of flowers, the earthiness of fallen leaves or the tang of winter air. It is very soul satisfying to just be very present to the magnificence of the natural world around us.

Write a note or letter of appreciation. Tell people who have helped you or touched your life how much you appreciate them. Give them a recommendation, write a testimonial, or send them a card. If you receive some of these, save them and review them when you are having a “black” day or an “off” week.

“Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation”. -Brian Tracy

The holidays are quickly approaching and if you’re a work at home mom, then you may be in a bit of a panic right now. While working from home is the ultimate dream for most women, those of us who do it, know that it is way more challenging then it appears to be. Especially when the holidays roll around because not only do you have to find time to get your work done, but you’ve also got to make time to attend social events, cook holiday meals and keep your kids busy while they’re on “vacation.” Therefore, getting organized is essential for you during this time of year so that you can simplify the holidays and remain stress free.

1. Think about Your Priorities.

The best time to start to simply the holidays is right now! Yes, before the holidays get here, you need to take the time to think about the next 2-3 months and what you’re personal, business and family goals/priorities are. For example, family gatherings, work deadlines and other scheduled events are priorities. You should also be thinking about things like having family pictures done, sending out Christmas cards and other holiday activities your family does to. Write each priority down on a piece of paper so you know what you HAVE to get done. This will help to greatly reduce holiay stress.

2. Get Things Scheduled.

Even though we are a month or two away from the holidays, it’s never too early to start making schedule for yourself. If you already have some work deadlines scheduled for November and/or December, begin scheduling time in your calendar to work on these deadlines. As you block off time for work in your calendar, begin to block of time for the activities you currently know about. You may even want to try and get certain activities/events (family pictures, date/time for Thanksgiving Dinner, etc.) scheduled now so they won’t be last minute later. This will help to simplify the holidays and clear up your schedule for other things as the holidays get closer.

3. Never Put Off Tomorrow What Can Be Done Today.

You know you’ve heard this “tip” before, but it’s very true for the work at home mom gearing up for the holidays. There are a lot of little tasks that have to be done to prepare for the holidays and finding time to do them can be hard as the days go by. Therefore, if you find yourself with a little extra time one day, take that time to complete one of these little tasks. For instance, who says you have to fill out your Christmas cards the night before you send them? Why not get them done now (October or November) and wait to mail them out until December? You can also create your holiday dinner menus, and many other things, in advance too!

Making it through the holidays while maintaining your sanity can be hard to do when you’re a work at home mom, but it is possible. You can simpilfy the holidays using the three tips above and get organized and stay on top of things this holiday season.

What does it take to execute a successful personal branding campaign? As you can probably guess, that answer is long and fairly complicated. However, while there are too many details to discuss in this space, there are several important concepts which are essential to any personal branding effort. Today, we are going to focus on three key elements–stay tuned later this month for part two, which will feature three more essential elements.

A successful personal branding campaign builds credibility. The idea behind our personal branding strategy is to help business owners establish themselves as celebrity experts within their market. No, we aren’t trying to make them into international superstars like Justin Bieber or Johnny Depp. We are trying to make them experts within their market. For instance, we would help a real estate agent in Atlanta become THE sought-after, well-known real estate guru in that market. The first step in accomplishing this goal is to build credibility for the business owner–and there are many ways to accomplish this. We encourage (and help) our clients to write and publish a book. We help our clients appear on local TV broadcasts, and we help them publish work in such prestigious newspapers as the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. We encourage our clients to speak publically on topics related to their areas of expertise. Establishing credibility is a critical first step in building a strong and dynamic personal brand.

A successful personal branding campaign boosts visibility. The strongest personal brand in the world won’t do you any good if nobody sees you. It’s not enough to position yourself as a celebrity expert–you need to develop an audience! We help our clients accomplish this through a variety of media channels, as mentioned above. We also help them to build a dynamic website—and to attract targeted traffic. We teach our clients effective social media strategies and help them to build relationships with target customers within their market.

A successful personal branding campaign has a strong appeal to your target market. If your personal brand is going to lead to business growth (and really, why else would you be interested in branding?), it’s essential that it is finely tuned to appeal to your market. Your brand should reflect your personality and your skill set, but everything should be filtered through the question “does this appeal to my target customers?” What qualities do your customers value? Is it a sense of humor? Is it a non-stop, relentless work ethic? Is it your ability to take complicated issues and turn them into black and white, common sense terms that make sense? Tailor your personal brand to attract your target customers, and bringing in new business will be easier than ever before.

As discussed above, there are many elements that go into a successful branding campaign. But every strong branding campaign will boost credibility, increase visibility, and appeals to its target market. Stay tuned for our next post for more keys to creating personal branding campaigns that really work.
